About Us

The Mendip school is a Special School in rural Shepton Mallet, catering for 152 children with an Education Health Care Plan from 4 to 19 with a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), and part of The Partnership Trust. The school and its dedicated staff are committed to developing the academic and life skills of all its pupils and students to enable them to lead safe, happy and purposeful lives, contributing economically and socially to their communities.

Our aim is for our young people to be successful and prepared for their lives beyond school. Through strong partnerships with parents and collaboration with a range of other agencies the school offers a caring and friendly learning environment in which pupils will make outstanding progress. All students at the school have a diagnosis of autism or speech language and communication needs. We also have learners with other additional needs including visual or hearing impairment, global development delay, social, emotional or mental health needs and Down Syndrome.

Our pupils travel from a massive catchment area, 80% on local authority transport. This encompasses Bristol, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, South Gloucester and Bath & North East Somerset. Each year the cohort varies in home location and are referred to the school according to which school placement can best meet the needs of the child’s Education Health Care Plan.

 

Celebrating 10 Years of The Mendip School

🎉 Our school is turning 10, and we’re planning the most amazing celebrations ever over the whole academic year of our 10th year! Get ready for a creative explosion as our students transform individual tiles into a spectacular mural, called “Through our eyes” centered on the children’s perspective and self-expression! 🎨
 
We’re going green and growing memories! 🌳 Each class (aptly named after trees) will plant their very own sapling, creating a living legacy that will grow alongside our school community.
 
Plus, we’re cultivating a magical sensory garden filled with edible plants – learning and snacking, anyone? 🌱
 
But wait, there’s more! We’re launching super-cool anniversary hoodies, and every student and staff member will receive a special pin badge featuring our specially designed 10-year logo. Talk about wearing our pride! 👕
 
The cherry on top? A fantastic fun day in September with raffles and celebrations! 🎪 Want to be part of this milestone? Your support through donations or materials will help make these amazing projects happen, with extra funds going straight back into enriching our children’s school experience.

The first event was a spectacular Colour Run held on Friday, 26th September. It was a wonderful day filled with fun, laughter, and celebration and £641.50 was raised on the day.
