Our Transitions and Tours

Prospective pupils and admissions.

PLEASE NOTE: TO ATTEND THE MENDIP SCHOOL, YOUR CHILD MUST HAVE AN EHCP AND DIAGNOSIS OF ASD OR SLCN.

Our admission arrangements remain based with Somerset Local Authority and follow their processes. This can be found on their website here. Additional information can be found in the Mendip School Admissions Policy found here The Admissions Policy.

Our PAN (Published Admissions Number) is 152. Our pupil number on roll can change weekly.

We do not currently provision by year group but instead allocate places based on need and whether or not we could meet the needs of your child in an age appropriate group.  At the moment we are full across the school but are considering places for some class (usually lower primary) dependent on whether we would be able to meet their needs.

The consultation process must take place through the Local Authority, we would be unable to identify through a conversation with yourself whether or not we would be able to meet the needs of a child or young person. Once we receive the consultation pack from the Local Authority we are given 15 days to review the documentation and make a decision, the school would notify the Local Authority of the decision.  At this point it is up to the Local Authority to agree the most appropriate placement and notify parents/carers.  We are unable to accept any documents not provided by the Local Authority as they should hold all the relevant information, reports and assessment for each child.

Tours of the school

TOURS OF THE SCHOOL ARE NOW CLOSED.  We will be offering tours of The Mendip School from the middle of September 2026, the exact date will be confirmed in September. The following information remains on the website FOR INFORMATION ONLY. Please do not contact the school to book a tour until September 2026.

If you wish to book a tour of the school for a prospective pupil, please email bookings@themendipschool.com with the following information:-

  • Name and contact details (email and phone) for parent/carers
  • Name and age of child
  • Child’s diagnosis
  • Stage of consultation (are you just looking around or in contact with Local Authority).

We hold tours on Wednesday afternoons, starting at 1:30pm and we can support up to 5 pairs of parents/carers on each tour. Tours will be booked on a first come first served basis and we request that,  where possible, children are not brought along. Thank you for your understanding with this.

Please note tours are not normally unavailable during the first and last weeks of each term.
