Red Class

RED CLASS PAGE

Red Class is a Key Stage 2 primary class, consisting of nine Year 5 & 6 pupils. We are focusing on our academic skills, alongside social & communication skills, sensory activities and regular Thrive sessions. We also love our weekly Primary Play session, our visits to the new Sensory Room, and taking one of the school therapy dogs for a walk.

We always start our day with a walk around the Golden Mile, followed by Zones of Regulation where we talk about our feelings, share our news and listen to our class book. Our learning is based around our termly topic, which this term is Vikings, and we are loving learning about long boats and longhouses, designing shields and writing viking stories and poems. Every day we have snack time, quiet reading, and we look forward to our two sessions of Reward Time.

RED CLASS TEAM

Jo Blakeney-Edwards – Class Teacher

Jo has been teaching for more years than she’d care to remember, mainly in mainstream primary schools. She started working at the Mendip School four years ago, and is passionate about helping our young people reach their potential. She has recently taken on Music Leadership and is looking forward to promoting music as a subject across the school. She has three children of her own, one of whom attended Fosseway School, and in her spare time she enjoys racing historic cars, walking and writing fiction.

Vicky Banfield – TA

Vicky has been at TA at TMS for four years. She has recently qualified as a Thrive Practitioner and loves delivering Thrive sessions to Red class and supporting the children’s social and emotional wellbeing.

Aounska Collins – TA

Nush has worked as a teaching assistant for five years, most recently at Avalon school and she joined TMS in September 2020. She has recently been offered the position of Proact-SkipR trainer and as well as joining the Behaviour Team at TMS, and looks forward to starting this role.
