Poplar Class
In Poplar class this year we have 10 pupils between the ages of 5 and 6. We are still following the early Years Stage Curriculum (EYFS) so have a focus on: Literacy (starting to use colourful semantics), Maths, Communication & Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Understanding the world and Expressive Arts and Design. In Poplar class we are ‘learning to learn’ and working hard on engaging in all activities throughout the school day. We are always working on our communicating, and this is a core area of learning for us. We work a lot in groups and 1:1 to complete our work through the day. We are also lucky enough to have lots of sessions with the Therapy team and Speech and Language sessions weekly.

Hi I’m Kate, I am the teacher for Poplar Class. I have been working at the Mendip school since September 2025 and I am throughly enjoying being part of the Mendip team. I really enjoy working with children and young people and I love being able to adapt the learning to suit each individual child’s needs. Outside of school I enjoy swimming, walking and spending time with my family and friends.

Hello! I am one of the TA’s in Poplar Class. This is my second year working in an SEN educational environment and I am so excited to learn new skills to help me be the best adult for the kids here. I also love a good natter so I look forward to chatting with all the lovely students and forming bonds with them.
