Beech Class Work Experience

This page has been designed, written and built by Jack, Noah, Preston and Jacob, students in Beech Class, as part of their ASDAN PSE Short Course.

For our work experience this year, we can choose from the following

  • vehicle maintenance
  • helping in the Greenfield Café here at school
  • working at the Bath and West Showground site
  • assisting the volunteers at The Bishop’s Palace in Wells.

In vehicle maintenance, we replace wheels, change coolants, check oil levels, clean the vehicle and test different things to make sure they work. We work on the school cars, the school minibuses and cars belonging to staff members.

At the Bath and West Showground, we planned and held a Christmas party in November. The current group of students are designing a small Mendip School Garden on an area that the Bath and West have generously allocated to the school. The plants and additional garden features have been bought and are being planted and installed. Some of the plants are being grown from seed at school before being planted on.

The Garden created and built by students from The Mendip School in Work Experience sessions – We were awarded a Gold Medal!

For work experience in the Greenfield Cafe, we sweep the floors, prepare and bake food, make drinks and talk to customers. We also keep items like sugar and condiments on the tables filled up and clean tables after customoers have left.

In the Bishop’s Palace in Wells, we do lots of different things. For instance, we help to keep the palace clean inside and hand out and sanitise the multimedia guide devices. We also help out in the Bishop’s Palace Garden doing things like shovelling compost and moving things around in wheelbarrows, wiping signs and polishing the brass plaques. We also remove litter and rubbish and fallen leaves. One exciting task we occasionally do is to feed the swans when they ring the bell!
