Apple Class

Apple Class is the Reception Class here at The Mendip School. We have the youngest children, who are all aged between 4-5years.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS), with our Prime Areas of Learning being; Communication & Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Physical Development. In Apple Class we are ‘learning to learn’ and we have a heavy focus on following routines, building up skills to aid our Listening and Attention and learning ways to aid our communication with others.
We like singing, music, sensory play, getting out and about and generally exploring all of our areas of learning through a play-based approach. We also work closely with our Therapy Team and love our weekly Occupational Therapy (OT) and Speech & Language (S&L) sessions.

Our Staff

Anna Swift

Class Teacher

This is my second year at the Mendip School, after over 20 years of experience in Mainstream. My passion has always been Early Years and I love that we can teach to the children’s interests and have lots of fun through our sensory play and singing. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and walking my dog Coco.

Aiden Groves

Class Teaching Assistant

It is my third year working at The Mendip School, having worked in both Primary and Secondary classes before Early Years. I love getting creative and MESSY! Outside of work I like tinkering with cars.

Aaron Baylis

Class Teaching Assistant

Since finishing college 18 months ago I have been working here at the Mendip School. I love being active so working with the youngest children is perfect for me and keeps me busy. When I am not at work I can be found at the gym or playing rugby.

Angela

Class Teaching Assistant

I have been at The Mendip School for only a couple of months but love working with the younger children. I have a keen interest in Drama and like doing my own writing.
