On Monday 11th March, Shiroma Silva from the BBC came to work with pupils, staff and governors at The Mendip School.  Ms Silva works on the BBC’s ‘Click‘ program, which looks at new developments in technology.  She wanted to find out how we are using virtual reality to support our pupils with overcoming anxiety and preparation for adulthood.

Our pupils showed Ms Silva the cafe training simulation they had been working with to prepare them for working in the cafe as part of work experience, and also talked about how virtual reality has helped them gain confidence in their abilities.  Ms Silva also spoke to Iian and Dr Nigel Newbutt (one of our new school governors who works at the University of West England) about how virtual reality is supporting the children of our school and how we plan to use it in the future.
Below are some photos of the pupil’s experience.  The show will be aired on BBC iPlayer on Saturday 30th March.
