The Mendip School go from a Bronze to a Silver School Games Award
We are delighted to announce that we, The Mendip School, have achieved the School Games Silver Mark Award for the 2017/18 academic year. The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
Some of sporting achievements this year include:
A new Inclusive Playground and app to encourage daily physical activity,
Specialist group coaching sessions in Table Cricket, Fishing and Golf
Whole School Activity Days in Tightrope Walking, Roller Skating and Running
Primary Caving Days
Lunchtime and After School Sports Clubs
Staff training in Primary PE, Swimming and Cricket 16
Competitive Intra and Inter School Opportunities for all age groups across a range of sports
Links with five local clubs and external providers
Sports Leadership opportunities for students
Whole School Family Fun Day
With a total of 43 young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
A special thanks to: Jake Godfrey and Green Class for writing sports blogs for The School Games website over the last year
We look forward to applying again in 2019.

3MG take on Bath Rugby!

3MG had a fantastic time at the Bath Rugby Summer Scrum. The coaches and volunteers ensured that everyone enjoyed themselves and participated in passing, kicking, agility, tackling and tag activities. All students were given T Shirts, certificates and photos of Bath Rugby players as souvenirs of the day. They even met eight first team players for autographs!!

Well done to everyone involved!

The Mendip School is Officailly Open!

On Wednesday 17th May, The Mendip School was officially opened by Michael Eavis CBE.  Over 200 people attended the event which showcased the tremendous facilities on offer to pupils, as well as demonstrate the strong community links already forged with local business and sports enterprises such as Bath Rugby, Yeovil Town FC, JosKos and Divoky Riding School.

Staff and parents mingled alongside eachother and invited guests whilst pupils of the school helped to raise funds by manning craft stalls and providing guided tours.  The Friends of Mendip School were also in full support.

More information about the official opening can be found on the DKA website.  DKA are the architects responsible for the design and project management of the school building.

A massive thank you to everyone involved.  It was a super day!

Team Spirit support The Mendip School

You can support Team Spirit and help towards the development of the new swimming pool by making a donation here.

During four gruelling days from May 12-15 2017 ‘Team Spirit’ (left-right; Phil, Adrian, Matt, Christian, Andrew, Gary & Nigel) will be mountain biking the challenging 151 mile coast to coast route the hard way – off road – to raise funds towards a new £1.5M swimming pool for The Mendip School, Shepton Mallet and local community.

A challenging off-road coast to coast (C2C) MTB ride over 4 days from 12-15 May 2017 based on a route from Whitehaven to Tynemouth but including miles of remote red and black grade trails and singletrack through the Lake District (incl Honister Pass), North Pennine Moorland and reaching a height of almost 800 metres above sea level! A real test of technical mountain biking skills and stamina.

We’re a group of spirited Mountain Bikers that ride the best South West UK trails (generally at night). We range in age and ability but all share a common love of mud, sweat and gears! New members welcome!

2RM/CG – Somerset Games

On April 21st classes 2RM and 2CG attended the Somerset school games at Milfield school. This was a fantastic opportunity for inclusion and the boys thoroughly enjoyed the whole day! They were busy throwing, running, catching and jumping and all worked very hard and tried their best.

The day was lead by sixth form pupils at Milfield school and the boys loved getting to know and working alongside the older pupils. Great day all round, well done everyone!
